What We Do

CHILDREN

Green Leaf Aid for Kinshasa aims to raise funds to ensure adequate food, medical care, and school fees for 15 children who live in foster families. The children and families are supported by 3 organisers who visit regularly to ensure that the children are well and to address any problems.

Food is usually distributed at a celebratory social gathering of children and foster-parents: during Covid this was not possible, so the organisers travelled to the families

FOSTER PARENTS

FOSTER PARENTS MEET TO PICK UP FOOD FUNDED BY GREEN LEAF (cooking oil, tinned fish etc)
The children met together at the same time.

WHAT WE WANT TO DO

The children join foster-parents, who all have children of their own. Nobody is paid for their work for Green Leaf, which is done out of good will and concern for the children.

                MEDICAL CARE

Disease is endemic in Kinshasa, where public hygiene is very poor. Even children who are reasonably well off are at risk of malaria and typhoid. So far Green Leaf Aid has been able to respond to all urgent appeals for funding for medical treatment.

                EDUCATION

At present only 6 children are at school: we would like all the children to be in school.

Primary schooling is technically free, but money is requested to pay for essentials.

Secondary schooling must be paid for.

We aim to raise enough funds to pay for all the children we support to go to school.

WIDOWS

Occasionally a grant is made to a widow in need.
